Coccoina - the yummiest smelling glue & other Green Depot goodies.

Coccoina is Italian glue that smells like almonds that I'm seriously tempted to lick every time I use it. I got my tin at Green Depot in Manhattan (222 Bowery) last year. Green Depot is like Home Depot but way smaller and with ec0-friendly items (and minus the pervy-lookin' construction dudes). Apologies if I've just offended any pervy-lookin' construction dudes that happen to come across this blog and frequent the Home Depots in Brooklyn. ;)

I also purchased this wood pen that I've enjoyed using:

some hemp cord similar to this:

and a sample of their zero-VOC paint:

With the sample size I painted a library cart that I found in the trash. I will post a pic soon.

Here's a caricatured sketch I did of Sal on location in my kitchen while he was still on the internet at 4 am this morning. The internet is definitely the drug of the decade.

Billy's Bakery

adorable packaging + delicious banana cake

One piece of cake was last night's late dessert and today's breakfast and lunch. And... I still have a small piece left over.

Chicago tips anyone??

I will be in Chicago for 3-4 days VERY soon and was wondering if anyone had any tips on places I should visit or general areas to go check out. I've never been to Chicago before. I plan on taking public transportation mostly. Will I freeze to death and/or get blown away? Is it around the same temp as NYC?

Pomeranians make me smile

If I were to ever get another pet, R.I.P. goldfishes 1-5, the birdie that my mom let escape, the canary that my evil brother murdered in a paper plane when we were kids (I'm still traumatized), the hamster that got charcoaled under the furnace, the other hamster that got eaten by his mother, the yellow chick that my parents bought off the street, the red-eyed albino bunny that I'm pretty sure my family ate but refuse to admit that they did (you can't trust hungry Italians, watch your back, and your bunny's back too!!!)...

I would want a Pomeranian.

jumbo backpack

I spent 4 days making myself this jumbo backpack. After I was done I realized I look weird with a jumbo backpack on. The original idea was to make a backpack larger than the width of my behind in an attempt to make my behind appear smaller in contrast. Unfortunately, my behind still looks just as jumbo as it did before the jumbo backpack. Ah well.

I love the packaging! It will probably hurt a little bit when I have to actually use it.

Cutiepants Alert!

Resident cutiepants Sal Cipriano unintentionally captured Gossip Girl's Penn Badgley (far left) while taking photos of the crowd at a recent NYC movie premiere.

A nice collection of printables from Martha.

Came across these tonight on MarthaStewart.com.
Lots of useful labels & ideas in there. My concern with home printed labels (on inkjet printers) is that most of the time they are not waterproof. One drop of water and your design melts away.

Waterproof adhesive sheets are available though, I saw some here. 100 sheets/$59.95.

Adorable.

I don't know who took this picture, but it is so stinking cute I had to post it. Now I will try to get some work done today.

Shop update scheduled:

I love the way these look.

Kremer Pigments

(images from the Kremer Pigment website)

I want to go check out this shop one day. They sell pigments and supplies to make your own paint. Having a set of handmade paints sounds like fun! Expensive fun, but fun nonetheless!

The shop is located at:
247 West 29th Street
New York, NY 10001
between 7th and 8th avenue

coffee stain labels

coffee bottle

I've been playing around with labels the last few days after I became infatuated with recreating apothecary style labels that I saw in the Green Guide for Artists. I bought some sticker paper from Staples, stained it with coffee, let it dry over night and then ran it through my printer. After I did this I realized it would be much cheaper to just print on cream colored paper (to avoid the water warping) and use a glue stick to attach it to the bottle. The sticker paper was about $13 for 30 sheets, you can get like 500 sheets of cream colored paper like this for $8. The bottle is a recycled peppermint nog bottle from Target which was on sale for 4/.99 cents this week. Coffee and cute bottles for .25 cents each? Sounds good to me.

Ha! I just realized the paper I linked to was called Hammermill Fore MP . I think it is a sign that it really is for me :D. Maybe next time.
