I would like to introduce you to the latest in crafty girl fashion accessories- the yucky flesh colored wrist brace! Ever since the turbo-crocheting for Renegade my wrists have been killing me :( . Anyone else having wrist problems?? Let's commiserate.

Poor Miss M!
Sounds like you have a repetitive strain injury / carpal tunnel syndrome? When you perform a repetitive series of movements (i.e. computer tasks, and yes, crocheting like mad) you can cause the nerves in your hands to swell. The nerves are enclosed in a sheath, and when they are inflammed, they are compressed against the sheath and you feel that pain. Docs give you a hand brace to help, and you also have to take anti-inflammatory meds (600mg of Motrin). Be careful and get well--it can get serious if not attended to :-(
P.S. Try to do arm and hand stretches while you are working... here is more info

i don't have wrist problems...yet but i DO have a bad thumb from scissoring and paper punch away...crikey but it hurts sometimes! craft injuries...who knew? rest up!
When I was doing a thousand and one small scraperboard illustrations I had to wear a sporting wrist strap, all the tiny repetative movements just killed my hand and joints. It needs rest...crochet or no crotchet.
Ooh! So sorry... Take care!
ouch !
pppffffuu*****blowing away the pain
hope that helps
:p
yes, take a rest
Thanks for your well wishes! The problem is I can't stay away from the computer because I am working on a big project that I have to finish. I just purchased a Wacom drawing tablet online, so hopefully that will ease the wrist strain.
Tablet is good! Just stay away from the track balll (those are notoriously bad). Get better soon!
Miss M, you can use the Timmie photo (I'm very flattered!) :-D
Yay! Thanks!
Rest up, we need more cute stuff! :P
I have sympathy for ya as I have carpal tunnel trubs. Mine hurt after a night in bed and too much repetitive action (like knitting). *sympathetic hugs*
Both of my hands are totally shot. Too many ideas + workaholic + only two hands = weak, numb hands.
I could go on and on about taking care of your hands - unfortunately a big thing is limiting your work.
I've just started acupuncture and myofascial release (type of massage) to get my hands healed.
Email me if you want to talk more -
I stopped crocheting completely these last 2 weeks and finally after 9 years of doing computer art I invested in a Wacom Tablet! My wrists are feeling much better now that I am not using the mouse as much, I think in about a week or so I can get back into hand-crafting again.
Thanks for your feedback!
my heart goes out to you. i have 'crochet elbow' (tendonitis). gave up crochet for a YEAR. was sooo happy to get back to it, but after a few weeks of mega-crochet, i had to give it up again. i do the exercises, which help ALOT, and wear the brace, but i think it might be time to be crafty with some other medium... or, perhaps, crochet in moderation ??
oh no! i recognise that. i just got a brace myself a few weeks ago.
It's amazing when your body gives up on you and forces you to have a break!
I got rsi from animating..
make sure you see a specialist (physio perhaps?), as it can be a recurring problem.
all the best.
