Breaking News!

Are you sitting? good.

Well tonight my bf and I were walking around Midtown. I had just come out of painting class so I had one of my paintings with me. BF was holding the painting while we were walking and suddenly I hear him yelling "what are you f-ing stupid?". Apparently this little Mexican teenager thought my painting had some street value and tried to steal it!!!! I'm flattered, really, I am. (I wonder what he thought it really was, but let's just make believe he had a great eye for art) I tell the guy to "relax" and he pushes me, well tries to push me (did he not notice my fat ass?). It was almost humorous. After my boyfriend yelled at him again he just walked away. It was so weird. I'm all traumatized now, not because of this guy but because it brought me back to all the other attempted robberies/assaults that I've encountered. Like when I was in Paris alone and some dude in a furry cavemanesque vest pushed me for no reason and I went flying. I can't look at a furry vest the same way anymore. You bastard.

Oh sad but it seems you look vulnerable to robbers & snatchers. But i would suggest be carefull in future & dnt take it lightly if it has happened more than twice.

Don't worry, folks, if I scared away one man with my bad breath I can easily protect Marilyn from the forces of evil again!

It is a beautiful painting. I bet it was the nudie factor that led him to believe there was a retail market for it.

He really didn't see what the painting looked like, he was coming straight at us. I am guessing he thought it was something else...

B- I didn't see that post, that is so sucky for that artist, he keeps getting ripped off! Flickr is just becoming a place for people to copy artists work and try to make profit without doing the work themselves! I think about this everyday and it gives me a terrible feeling. I've seen about 10 crocheters ripping off Elizabeth's toys stitch for stitch! It is so f-ing disgusting!

I wanted to mention
-OF COURSE IT S NOT A MEXICAN THING-
but there seams to be some
bad mexicans....

M.-it is not only the flickr source,
but flickr is nicer to browse through.
(fotolog sucks!)

and you are right, I saw these Elisabeth toys @etsy too !!
but Elisabeth give crochet workshops, so maybe ... a alumni..?
but it happended to me also.
I found a crocheted hippo lady with the same colors+expression+all.
and the person reacts like:
oh, really? what a surprise...
but she was friendly...
when you can talk to them and they react- it´s o.k., but when they ignore your mails, that sucks !!

but we will catch you all !!
!! beware !! poopy people

Holy comments, batman! I have never been robbed or anything, so it's freaky to think about that kind of thing. I'm sure I would have just given him the painting. Good thing Super Sal was there!!

oh man thats so sucky :( I'm glad to hear he didn't snatch your painting though! Maybe it's your charmingly good looks that attracts all these freaky deakys ;-)

P.S. - Your ass is not fat!

People can be such jerks.

I hope I don't sound mean but please don't say it's a Mexican thing (not directed at anyone in particular). Like I read somewhere else, it's not a Mexican thing, it's a bad person thing, and yes, a coincidence.

It's really annoying when someone rips off your work (or straight out tries to steal it first hand!). I'm kinda scared to post my things sometimes because you never know who's copying. I mean being inspired by it is one thing. Marilyn you should carry mace :P

btw, you paint so good! No wonder it was about to be stolen!

I feel like if I carry mace I will accidentally spritz myself in the eye with it instead!

ummm Marilyn thats a very sad and bad thing, i don't understand all very well, but i hope everything is right, i'm from mexico, and bad people are in everywere in this world, this little stupid guy makes a mistake, but can be from any country, mmm i don't know this is sad, when i read this, i feel really bad, but i understand you're point.

and for the thing of the people are copy things from other talented people, i admire you and i come here for inspiration, you know i love your work so much, but always exist the people who steal, and copy.

Erandi- Everything is okay, I hope you didn't get offended by any of the comments. I know that there are good and bad people all over and I am not passing any judgments on any race. I want you to know this. As for the copying, I have a blog to show people my work and to keep myself inspired and other people inspired (hopefully) as well. I love that about the internet, bloodybunny and I were discussing the people who steal/copy designs exactly from artists without any credit or anything and try to pass it off as their own.
